Scene Analysis
Description
In this scene Anna has just revealed to her father(Chris C. Christopherson) and her some what fiance Mat Burke that as a young teenager she was raped and forced into prostitution.
Context
This scene takes place in 1910 where if a women was raped it was seen as her own fault and that she was in a sense no longer pure and whole.
Scene Plot
~Before Anna enters Chris and Mat had been loudly discussing Anna and Mat's plans to marry Anna. Chris is completely opposed to the idea of Anna marrying a sailer because of his personal experience as being a sailer and being married.
~Anna enters(she and Mat had planned to meet and venture to the mainland togethor) she sees chairs thrown around(clear evidence that an argument had taken place) and begins to question them on the subject
~Mat reveals to Anna that they were fighting about her and begins to tell her the details of their conversation. He tells Anna that he had confessed his love for Anna to Chris which had angerered Chris.
~Mat then confesses his love for Anna which in return Anna confesses he love for him. Anna and Mat kiss and then Anna goes to leave and say "goodbye" to Mat.
~Mat questions Anna on why she won't marry him. He says that the only thing that will stop him from marrying he is if Anna is already married to anyother man.
~Anna is provoked and then reveals to Chris and Mat that as a child on the farm she was abused and then raped by one of the cousins which caused her to run away and eventually be forced in to prostition.
~Anna pleads to Mat that she still loves him and hopes that he still loves her
~Mat storms out angered by Anna confession and says he no longer wants to marry her.

Brief Overview
This is a play about a young girl Anna who meets and reconnects with her estranged father Chris. Along the way she meets and falls in love with a sailer named Mat.
Plot Context
Chris and Anna have not seen each other in fifteen years back when she was very young. He left her with cousins to be raised on the farm. The cousins abused Anna and eventually raped her which caused her to run away and become a prostitute. The year is 1910 and being a prositute or even being raped is not seen in the same way it is seen today.
