There is two other people involved in this scene her somewhat fiance Mat Burke and her estranged father Chris C. Christopherson.

What

In this scene she had revealed to them that as a young women one of the cousins on the farm had raped her afterwhich she ran away and was forced into prostitution. She pleads with Mat to still love her.

Where

They on a Chris' ship that is docked somewhere in the United States. They are in Anna's living quarters on the ship.

When

When this conversation takes place it is the afternoon(around 4:30) and leds into later night in August 1910 on the ship docked in the United States.

Why

She revealed the truth about her past and why she couldn't marry Mat because they both started treating her more like an object then a person. She tells them that he can't marry her because as a young girl she was raped, ran away, and then forced into prostition.
